Heart device trial could change treatment for thousands

Summary

This large UK study aims to determine if implantable defibrillators help patients with severe heart failure not caused by blocked arteries. Half of the 2,500 participants will receive the device while the other half won't, and researchers will compare survival rates over 3-10 years. The results could change international treatment guidelines by identifying which patients truly benefit from these devices versus those who face unnecessary risks.
