Heart attack breakthrough? common diabetes drugs tested to save lives

NCT ID NCT06903754

Summary

This study tested whether adding a once-daily diabetes medication (dapagliflozin or empagliflozin) to standard treatment could help non-diabetic patients who recently had a serious heart attack. The goal was to see if these drugs could reduce future hospitalizations for heart failure, prevent repeat heart attacks, and lower the risk of death. The trial involved 450 patients who had a heart attack and some degree of heart weakness but did not have diabetes.
