Does telling patients about hidden heart calcium change their care?

NCT ID NCT05588895

Summary

This study tested whether telling patients and their doctors about incidental findings of coronary artery calcium (CAC) on routine chest CT scans leads to better heart disease prevention. Researchers enrolled 202 patients who had these calcium deposits found by chance and randomly assigned them to either receive a notification about it or receive usual care. The main goal was to see if notification increased prescriptions for cholesterol-lowering statin medications and improved cholesterol levels over six months.
