Danish heart attack trial tests new procedure to save heart muscle

NCT ID NCT03787745

Summary

This study is testing whether a modified version of standard heart attack treatment can reduce damage to the heart muscle and prevent future heart failure. The trial involves 1,800 patients who are having a severe type of heart attack (STEMI) and receiving emergency artery-opening treatment. Researchers will compare the new approach, which briefly interrupts blood flow after reopening the artery, against standard treatment to see if it improves survival and reduces hospitalizations for heart failure.
