One-Shot heart drug aims to save muscle, save lives after severe heart attack
NCT ID NCT01502774
Summary
This large study tested whether a single injection of an existing drug, cyclosporine, given right before a standard artery-opening procedure (stent), could improve long-term outcomes for people having a major heart attack. It aimed to see if protecting heart muscle during treatment would lead to fewer deaths, less heart failure, and less heart enlargement over the next 1-3 years. Nearly 1,000 patients participated in this placebo-controlled trial to find out.
