New heart attack drug aims to save heart muscle

Summary
This study tested whether a new drug called BI 765845 could help reduce the amount of permanent damage to the heart muscle after a heart attack. About 160 adults who had just suffered a heart attack were randomly assigned to receive either the new drug or a placebo (dummy treatment) in addition to their standard care. Researchers used heart scans to measure the size of the heart attack scar to see if the drug made a difference.
