Chilling the heart: new trial tests icy saline to save muscle after heart attack

Summary
This study is testing if cooling the blocked heart artery with cold saline during a standard heart attack procedure can prevent additional damage when blood flow is restored. The goal is to see if this 'intracoronary hypothermia' reduces the size of the heart injury and improves recovery. Researchers will compare this cooling method against the standard procedure in 60 patients having a major heart attack.
