First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study follows 50 adults aged 18–85 with certain types of hearing loss who either use or could use an FDA-approved bone-anchored hearing device. Over 3 years, researchers will measure changes in memory, attention, and other thinking skills. The goal is to see if treating hearing loss with this device might help slow cognitive decline.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that treating hearing loss with an osseointegrated device helps preserve cognitive function in older adults.

What could go wrong

This is an observational pilot study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It does not test a new treatment, only tracks existing device users.
