Study pits hearing aid against surgery for common hearing loss

NCT ID NCT02456272

Summary

This small pilot study aimed to gather information on how two common treatments for otosclerosis—a hearing aid and surgery—affect patients' quality of life and hearing. Thirty patients with this type of hearing loss first tried a hearing aid for two months and then had surgery. Researchers measured their hearing and quality of life after each treatment to see which approach patients preferred and how well each worked.
