VA tests pocket hearing aids to help older vets in ER

NCT ID NCT03594500

Summary

This study tested whether giving a simple, pocket-sized hearing amplifier to older veterans with hearing loss during an emergency room visit helps them communicate better with doctors and understand their discharge instructions. Researchers enrolled 133 veterans aged 60+ with mild hearing loss and randomly gave some the device to use during their visit. The goal was to see if this easy step improves the quality of care and preparation for going home.
