First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looked at how healthy adults process a compound called ornithine phenylacetate (OP), which is being explored as a treatment for liver disease. Twenty volunteers aged 40-70 received OP by mouth and stable tracers by IV, with blood, urine, and muscle samples collected. The goal was to understand how OP is broken down into amino acids like glutamate and glutamine, not to test a treatment.
