New antibody weapon tested in battle against tough head & neck cancers

Summary

This completed Phase 3 trial tested whether adding an experimental antibody drug (C225) to standard chemotherapy (cisplatin) worked better for people with advanced head and neck cancer that had spread or returned. About 114 patients were randomly assigned to get either the real antibody or a placebo (dummy infusion) along with their chemo, and neither they nor their doctors knew which one they received. The main goals were to see if the combination helped patients live longer, shrank tumors better, and was safe.
