Doctors test gentler radiation to ease harsh side effects for cancer patients

NCT ID NCT02528955

Summary

This study tested if doctors could safely use less radiation after surgery for head and neck cancer. The goal was to see if lowering the radiation dose or targeting a smaller area could reduce long-term side effects like dry mouth and trouble swallowing, without letting the cancer come back. It involved 200 patients who were placed into different treatment groups based on the specifics of their cancer and surgery.
