Could a simple head tilt improve stroke recovery?
NCT ID NCT06297863
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether tilting a stroke patient's head down 15 degrees for 30-90 minutes before a clot removal procedure can improve blood flow to the brain. About 118 adults with a specific type of stroke will be randomly assigned to either the head-down tilt or standard positioning. The goal is to see if this simple position change helps keep brain tissue alive and boosts the benefits of the clot removal procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- head down tilt positioning (procedure)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this simple head-down tilt could improve blood flow to the brain during a stroke, potentially reducing disability and improving recovery after clot removal.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early phase 2 trial with only 118 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The tilt might cause discomfort, vomiting, or delays in treatment, and it is not yet proven to improve outcomes.
