Blood markers may predict pneumonia outcomes in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT06993623

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at whether certain blood markers (heparin-binding protein, platelet count, and platelet size) can help doctors diagnose and predict the course of lung infections that develop in patients on breathing machines. Researchers will enroll 80 adults who have been on a ventilator for at least 48 hours and show signs of pneumonia. Blood samples will be compared between those who recover and those who do not. The goal is to find better ways to guide treatment decisions.
