Could oxygen therapy help people quit opioids?
NCT ID NCT05924022
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This early-phase study explores whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can reduce the physical and emotional discomfort of opioid withdrawal when people slowly lower their methadone dose. About 36 adults in a supervised treatment program will receive either real HBOT at different pressures or a sham treatment. Researchers will track withdrawal symptoms and whether participants can successfully reduce their methadone dose.
