Simple blood test may flag kidney risk after bypass surgery
NCT ID NCT07445997
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is looking at 200 people having planned heart bypass surgery to see if their blood sugar levels (HbA1c) before surgery can help predict if they will develop acute kidney injury afterward. Researchers will also use ultrasound to measure kidney blood flow. The goal is to find better ways to identify patients at risk, so doctors can take steps to protect their kidneys.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify patients at higher risk for kidney injury after heart bypass surgery, allowing for closer monitoring and earlier intervention.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve outcomes, and the results may not apply to all patients or surgeries.
