Experimental vaccine aims to stamp out hidden cancer cells in HPV-Linked head and neck cancer
NCT ID NCT06373380
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase study tests HB-200 (a combination of two investigational drugs) in 7 people with HPV16-positive head and neck cancer who have completed standard treatment but still show signs of HPV DNA in their blood. The goal is to see if HB-200 can target and eliminate any remaining microscopic cancer cells before they grow into visible tumors. The study focuses on safety and whether the treatment can be given as planned.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
HB-200 (HB-202 and HB-201)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to treat microscopic cancer before it becomes visible, potentially preventing recurrence in HPV16+ head and neck cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small pilot study with only 7 participants. The NavDx test is investigational and not FDA-approved, so it's unclear if a positive result truly means cancer will return. The treatment may not work or could cause side effects.
