New surgical tool may reduce pain after tonsillectomy

NCT ID NCT07656831

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared two ways to remove tonsils in 66 people with chronic tonsillitis: using a harmonic scalpel (ultrasonic energy) versus traditional cold steel instruments. The main goal was to see if the harmonic scalpel causes less pain three days after surgery. Researchers also looked at surgery time and blood loss. All surgeries were done by experienced ENT surgeons.
