Squeeze your way to better dialysis: handgrip training boosts fistula success
NCT ID NCT04034433
First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a simple handgrip exercise program before and after surgery could improve the size and function of dialysis fistulas in people with advanced kidney disease. Forty participants performed regular hand exercises, and researchers measured fistula diameter using ultrasound. The goal was to see if this easy, low-cost approach could reduce the high failure rate of fistulas used for hemodialysis.
