Bacteria in mouth and gut may hold clues to colon polyp condition

This study looked at the bacteria in the mouth and gut of 126 people to see if those with serrated polyposis syndrome have a different mix of microbes compared to people with other types of colon polyps or no polyps. Researchers collected saliva and stool samples to analyze the bacterial communities and check for a specific bacterium called Fusobacterium nucleatum. The goal was to better understand what causes this condition, not to test a treatment.
