Young poop for old muscles? trial tests fecal transplant to fight frailty
NCT ID NCT06649981
Summary
This early-stage study is testing whether transplanting gut bacteria from young, physically active donors into healthy older adults can help them maintain muscle strength, cognitive sharpness, and metabolic health, especially during stressful times. Researchers will give 80 participants either capsules containing freeze-dried donor bacteria or a placebo to see if restoring a youthful gut microbiome improves physical and mental resilience. The goal is to develop a new approach to combat age-related decline in muscle and brain function.
