Gut bugs linked to cancer therapy success?

NCT ID NCT06181201

First seen Mar 19, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looked at whether the types of bacteria in a person's gut before treatment could predict how well their rectal cancer responds to chemotherapy and radiation. Researchers planned to collect stool samples from patients with stage II or III rectal cancer and compare their gut bacteria to tumor shrinkage after treatment. The study was stopped early with only 2 participants, so no firm conclusions can be drawn.
