Scientists hunt for hidden gut enzymes that transform healthy plant chemicals
NCT ID NCT07589166
First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026
Summary
This study collected stool samples from 40 healthy adults to look for DNA from gut bacteria that can break down or modify terpenoids and carotenoids—compounds found in plants that may affect health. Participants also filled out a diet questionnaire. The goal was simply to discover and count these bacterial enzymes, not to test any treatment.
