New gut cleaner tested to stop infections after colon surgery

NCT ID NCT07180615

Summary

This study aims to find out if a newer antibiotic called Rifaximin works as well as the standard combination of Neomycin and Metronidazole to prevent infections after colon surgery. It will involve about 458 adult patients scheduled for planned colon surgery across five Swiss hospitals. Participants will take one of the two antibiotic regimens the day before their operation to clean their gut, and researchers will track infection rates, hospital stays, and safety for 30 days.
