Scientists test probiotics in artificial gut to fight kidney toxins

NCT ID NCT04768309

Summary

This study aimed to understand if probiotics could reduce harmful toxins produced by gut bacteria in people with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Researchers collected stool samples from 20 patients with CKD and tested them in a lab-made artificial intestine. They measured whether adding specific probiotics changed the amount of toxins produced.
