Gut bugs and night shifts: a recipe for diabetes risk?

NCT ID NCT05251207

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how a substance made by gut bacteria, called TMAO, might affect insulin resistance (a step toward diabetes). Researchers will give 40 healthy adults L-carnitine supplements and also have them do a simulated night-shift to see how these factors change blood markers related to diabetes and inflammation. The goal is to understand the connection, not to treat or cure any disease.
