Gut bug vs. herb: new hope to stop prediabetes?

NCT ID NCT05720299

Summary

This study tested whether taking a specific gut bacteria (Akkermansia muciniphila) or a plant compound called berberine could help obese adults with prediabetes. 110 participants were randomly assigned to receive one of these treatments or a placebo for 12 weeks. Researchers measured changes in blood sugar control, weight, body fat, and gut bacteria to see if the treatments were safe and effective.
