Could your gums be stiffening your arteries? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT07263113

Summary

This study aims to understand if severe, long-term gum disease (periodontitis) makes arteries stiffer, which is a known risk factor for heart problems. Researchers will compare artery stiffness in 206 adults, half with severe gum disease and half with healthy gums, who are otherwise matched for similar heart risk profiles. The goal is to see if gum disease itself might be an independent contributor to heart disease risk.
