Mind over menstruation: could guided imagery beat PMS?

NCT ID NCT07202650

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether guided imagery—a relaxation technique using mental images—can reduce the physical and emotional symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in university students. Forty-eight women with regular cycles and moderate-to-severe PMS will practice guided imagery and report their symptom changes. The goal is to find a safe, non-drug way to improve well-being during the menstrual cycle.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

guided imagery

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way for young women to manage PMS symptoms at home.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 48 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effect may be small or no better than relaxation alone.
