Pfizer tests vaccine to shield newborns from dangerous infection

Summary

This large study is testing whether a new vaccine given to healthy pregnant women can safely protect their newborns from Group B Strep (GBS), a serious bacterial infection. About 6,000 participants will receive either the vaccine or a placebo (saltwater) shot during pregnancy. Researchers will track the health of both mothers and babies to see if the vaccine helps pass protective antibodies to infants.
