C-Section shivering showdown: granisetron vs pethidine

NCT ID NCT06513806

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This completed Phase 4 trial tested two drugs—granisetron and pethidine—to treat shivering that can occur after spinal anesthesia during cesarean sections. 330 women aged 18-45 who had shivering after their C-section were given one of the two drugs. The main goal was to see how well each drug stopped the shivering, with secondary checks on pain and side effects like nausea.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

granisetron and pethidine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that granisetron is a safe and effective alternative to pethidine for stopping shivering after C-sections.

What could go wrong

This is a completed Phase 4 trial, so results are known. However, it only compares two drugs for a temporary side effect, not a cure or major breakthrough.
