New tests aim to spot Drug-Resistant gonorrhea before treatment fails

NCT ID NCT06815536

Summary

This study is testing whether new diagnostic tools can accurately detect a specific genetic mutation in gonorrhea bacteria that makes the infection resistant to a common antibiotic, ciprofloxacin. Researchers will compare the results of these new tests against a standard genetic sequencing method using samples from over 3,000 people who have already tested positive for gonorrhea. The goal is to help doctors quickly identify resistant infections so they can prescribe the right antibiotic from the start.
