New hope for seniors with migraine: nerve zaps without drugs?
NCT ID NCT07363083
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a minimally invasive nerve treatment called pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) for chronic migraine in people aged 65 and older. The goal is to see if it reduces pain and headache days, and to find out which patients respond best. Researchers will also look at frailty and nutrition as possible predictors. The study plans to enroll 100 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) applied to the greater occipital nerve
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a safe, non-drug option to ease chronic migraine in older adults and help doctors predict who will benefit most.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no control group, so results may not be conclusive. The procedure may not work for everyone, and benefits could be temporary.
