Heart bypass study probes hidden layer of blood vessels

NCT ID NCT07451873

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is measuring a thin layer inside blood vessels called the glycocalyx in 35 adults with coronary heart disease before and after bypass surgery. Researchers want to understand how this layer and oxidative stress affect blood vessel function. The goal is to find new markers that could help diagnose or monitor heart disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could identify new biomarkers for heart disease and improve understanding of how blood vessel damage develops.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study (35 participants) that does not test a treatment. Results may not apply to all patients or lead to direct therapies.
