NCT ID NCT00213668
First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looked at whether giving glutamine (a protein building block) to premature babies helps them digest food faster and need less time on IV nutrition. Forty premature infants, born at 30-33 weeks and at least 2 days old, were randomly assigned to receive either glutamine or a control supplement. Researchers measured how quickly food left the stomach and moved through the intestines, and tracked when babies could eat fully by mouth and go home.
