Preemie feeding breakthrough? glutamine put to the test

NCT ID NCT00213668

First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding glutamine to the feedings of premature babies helps their stomachs empty faster and reduces the time they need IV nutrition. Forty stable preterm infants received either glutamine-enriched or standard feedings. Researchers measured stomach emptying, bowel transit, and how quickly babies reached full feeding and went home.
