Bariatric surgery and pregnancy: new study tracks blood sugar risks

NCT ID NCT05084339

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at how weight-loss surgery changes blood sugar patterns during pregnancy and whether these changes increase the risk of having a smaller-than-normal baby. Researchers will use continuous glucose monitors to track blood sugar levels in 190 pregnant women, some with prior bariatric surgery and some without. The goal is to better understand these risks and see if the monitors can also help diagnose gestational diabetes.
