Video game and smart cuff fight muscle loss in hospitalized seniors

NCT ID NCT07294131

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests a new approach to help older adults (65+) maintain leg muscle strength while in the hospital. Participants play a tablet game that guides gentle leg exercises while a cuff lightly restricts blood flow to boost the workout's effect. The goal is to prevent rapid muscle loss from bed rest, helping patients recover more independence. 120 people across three hospitals will be randomly assigned to either standard physical therapy or standard therapy plus this game-based training.
