Hospital revisits 20-Year-Old antibiotic plan for sick babies

NCT ID NCT07460349

Summary

This study aims to verify if the current gentamicin dosing schedule used for newborns (up to 7 days old) with a serious blood infection (sepsis) is still safe and effective. Researchers will measure antibiotic levels in the babies' blood and check for any signs of kidney or hearing problems, which are rare side effects. The goal is to confirm the hospital's dosing is optimal by comparing new results to old, unpublished data, potentially creating a standard guideline for the region.
