Keto cholesterol mystery: mayo clinic hunts for genetic clues

NCT ID NCT07137286

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study from Mayo Clinic looks at why some people on a ketogenic diet develop very high LDL cholesterol ("hyper-responders"). Researchers will test the DNA of 100 adults with LDL over 170 mg/dL to see if certain gene mutations are linked to this extreme response. The goal is to understand the genetic factors behind cholesterol spikes, not to test a treatment.
