Scientists hunt for genetic clues to predict diabetic blindness

NCT ID NCT02879422

Summary

This study aimed to understand if specific genetic markers can help predict which people with type 2 diabetes will develop a severe, vision-threatening eye complication called proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Researchers compared the genes of 155 patients who had this severe eye disease with 155 patients who had milder or no eye disease. The goal was to gather knowledge to potentially identify high-risk patients earlier, not to test a new treatment.
