Scientists test Gene-Altered cells to fight HIV in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT03593187

Summary

This study tested the safety of a new gene therapy for people living with HIV who also have a high-risk type of lymphoma (a blood cancer). Researchers collected a patient's own blood cells, modified them with a gene designed to resist HIV, and then gave them back after a stem cell transplant. The main goals were to see if this procedure was safe and if the modified cells successfully took hold in the body.
