Scientists use gene therapy to shield patients from Chemo's worst side effects in aggressive brain cancer fight

NCT ID NCT05052957

Summary

This trial is testing a new approach for treating a fast-growing brain cancer called glioblastoma. Doctors first collect a patient's own blood stem cells and modify them with a protective gene in the lab. These modified cells are then given back to the patient to help their bone marrow withstand much higher, more effective doses of chemotherapy aimed at killing the remaining cancer cells. The goal is to see if this allows patients to complete the stronger treatment safely and if it helps them live longer.
