Brain chemical levels may predict Post-Surgery confusion in toddlers

Summary
This study will measure certain brain chemicals in 200 children aged 1-3 who are having hernia surgery. The goal is to see if changes in these chemicals can predict which children might become confused or have memory problems after surgery. Researchers will also compare two different anesthesia drugs to see if one is safer for the developing brain.
