Camera down the throat: new study aims to solve Kids' growth mysteries
NCT ID NCT07160387
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will use a thin, flexible camera called an endoscope to look inside the digestive tracts of 50 children aged 6 months to 18 years who are not growing as expected. The goal is to see if this procedure can find hidden gut problems causing their poor growth, and compare those findings with tissue samples. It may help doctors better diagnose and treat failure to thrive in the future.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve how doctors diagnose gastrointestinal causes of failure to thrive in children, leading to more targeted treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all children. Endoscopy carries small risks like bleeding or infection.
