Gamified training and AI aim to sharpen ear infection diagnoses
NCT ID NCT07246551
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether a gamified training program for doctors, plus an AI tool that analyzes ear drum images, can improve the accuracy of diagnosing ear infections (otitis media). About 200 patients with ear symptoms will be seen by doctors who either received the training or standard care. The goal is to reduce misdiagnosis and unnecessary antibiotic use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AOM Dx Trainer (gamified educational program)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate ear infection diagnoses in primary care, reducing unnecessary antibiotic use and improving patient outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (200 patients) focused on physician training, not a direct treatment. The AI tool is only being evaluated retrospectively, not used in real-time care.
