Study questions need for gallbladder surgery in elderly after stone removal

Summary

This study aims to determine whether elderly patients need gallbladder removal surgery after successful endoscopic treatment of bile duct stones, or if a watchful waiting approach is just as safe and effective. Researchers will compare surgery to no surgery in 400 patients aged 75 and older. The main goal is to see which approach results in fewer serious complications, deaths, or recurrent bile problems within one year.
