Blood test could cut unnecessary drug use in critically ill

NCT ID NCT02154178

Summary

This study tested whether using blood tests for fungal biomarkers could help doctors safely stop antifungal medications sooner in critically ill ICU patients. 110 patients who started antifungal treatment were randomly assigned to have their treatment guided by biomarker results or by standard care. The goal was to reduce the duration of unnecessary antifungal therapy, which can have side effects and costs.
