Summary

Researchers are testing whether a specially fermented milk drink with probiotic bacteria can improve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and metabolic syndrome. The study will include 80 adults with IBS or at least one sign of metabolic syndrome, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol, along with abdominal obesity. Participants will drink the probiotic milk as part of their diet, and researchers will track changes in gut symptoms, quality of life, and metabolic markers like blood sugar and cholesterol. The goal is to see if this functional dairy product can be a helpful part of dietary therapy for these conditions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
A fermented milk drink with added Levilactobacillus brevis B1 probiotic bacteria
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple dietary approach to managing both IBS symptoms and metabolic issues like high blood sugar or cholesterol.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with a small number of participants, so results may not apply broadly. The drink's effects could be modest, and individual responses may vary.
